Mi ero ripromesso di scrivere un bell'articolo sulla mia ultima maratona corsa a Firenze, poi per motivi vari non sono riuscito a scrivere quello che volevo... Per fortuna ho trovato sull'argomento un articolo molto bello, che ripropongo qui sotto in versione integrale e che a mio parere rispecchia fedelmente il clima di quella mitica giornata.

La seconda è la partita della cittadinanza fiorentina per la maratona, faticosa da ottenere ma ormai acquisita, al prezzo di una data quasi sempre infelice per il meteo, perché l’unica a corrispondere a un vero periodo di bassa stagione per gli alberghi.

A suggellarla, questa cittadinanza, ci ha pensato anche il sindaco, Matteo Renzi, che mantenendo fede a un impegno preso in campagna elettorale è giunto al traguardo. Non a New York, ma nella sua citta. Il nuovo avanza anche così, a passo stanco da tapascione: 4:42’31’’.

E la gara? Ah, già. la gara.

E’ stato un autunno strano questo della maratona italiana, caratterizzato com’è stato da lepri che si trasformano in finisher, distratti inseguitori africani, e donne, africane pure, che ai top runner uomini danno lezione di tattica e di saggezza.

Era accaduto a Torino, è successo di nuovo a Firenze, dove la testa della corsa maschile è stata caratterizzata dalla fuga diventata agonia dell’etiope Edea Bane Tola, partito per tirare il gruppo e rimasto al comando fino agli ultimi chilometri, quando è crollato di colpo a un’andatura da quasi 4’ al km e ha ceduto il passo ai connazionali Tolesa Tadese e Teshome Gelana, rispettivamente primo al debutto e secondo dopo uno spettacolare sprint sul corto rettilineo di Santa Croce.

Onore al debuttante Paolo Natali, ottavo e primo italiano in 2:22’59’’.

A Firenze come a Torino la lezione di maratona è venuta dalle donne: regale e regolare l’incedere di Firehiwot Dado Tufa (2:28’58’’), già due volte vincitrice a Roma, e Meseret Mengistu (2:30’45’’), un cognome difficile da portare nel Corno d’Africa. Terza la russa Alena Samokhvalova (2:36’42’’).

Per me è stata la prima esperienza di una maratona corsa tutta sotto la pioggia e devo dire che è stata una esperienza molto interessante dal punto di vista fisico. Una parte importante è stata la fase di pre-gara in Piazza Michelangelo, dove gli organizzatori hanno assemblato la griglia di partenza e in cui sono rimasto, insieme a tutti gli altri concorrenti, fermo sotto la pioggia battente per almeno un'ora.

Va anche detto che correre sotto la pioggia nel centro storico era problematico dal punto di vista dell'equilibrio e pertanto non era possibile mantenere una corsa rilassata e sciolta sul pavet scivoloso.

Con questa esperienza mi sono fatto l'idea che un'impresa prettamente individuale, come la corsa di una maratona viene tanto più arrichita di significati, quanto più essa viene svolta in una città importante e ricca di storia e in una cornice collettiva importante, perché l'impresa che si compie è fatta certamente per noi stessi, ma è anche un esempio per tutti gli altri. E anche però gli altri sono un esempio per te.

Così essere insieme a 10.000 persone di tante età e nazioni aiuta molto te stesso a rendere universale il tuo gesto.
