Manca ormai una settimana alla Milano City Marathon …
Questo fine settimana ho corso 53 km. Si tratta di un allenamento standard, che ripeto ormai da qualche mese.
Il sabato mattina mi alzo sempre alle 5.30 per prepararmi psicologicamente al mio esercizio. Devo svegliare il mio fisico e alimentarlo, sciogliere le eventuali tensioni ai muscoli, dimenticare gli affanni della settimana e predispormi a uscire di casa. In genere ho bisogno di un’ora per completare questa attività.
Devo convincere me stesso della estrema necessità dell’allenamento, ma nel contempo non devo indugiare eccessivamente, perché altrimenti prevarrebbero altri istinti di maggiore conservazione.
Si tratta di una vittoria della volontà che ogni settimana si ripete e io stesso rimango stupito di essere capace a ripeterla ogni volta con la stessa determinazione.
Esco di casa alle 7.00 del mattino in tutte le stagioni e con ogni condizione climatica.
A partire da settembre le giornate si accorciano progressivamente, per cui si inizia a correre al buio per molto tempo.
Passati all’ora solare, la questione primaria diventa la temperatura e con essa l’esistenza delle nebbie, che nella mia zona sono sempre molto presenti, soprattutto la mattina presto. Il Naviglio Grande, per così dire “fuma” spesso di prima mattina.
Lo scorso febbraio indossavo due paia di guanti e nonostante tutto, dopo circa 10 chilometri mi si gelavano le dita delle mani. Sentivo il dolore farsi avanti progressivamente. In genere cercavo di concentrarmi sull’obiettivo, per cui finivo col disinteressarmi completamente di tutto. Poi arrivavo a casa e con il caldo recuperato, cominciava il vero dolore, un picco estremamente intenso della durata di 5 minuti.
La stagione estiva è da questo punto di vista la migliore, anche se porta con sé altri tipi di problemi. Il clima caldo spesso è indice di afa, cattivo sonno, voglia di cazzeggio, piuttosto che dinamismo, voglia di fare, volontà di arrivare, che sono i pilastri della corsa.
Il sabato corro un mezza maratona e i miei tragitti sono sempre del tipo andata e ritorno.
La domenica è invece dedicata al lungo, che nel caso specifico è di 32 km.
In questo caso ho un margine maggiore di tempo: Posso partire anche alle 9.00 del mattino e sto mediamente in giro 3 ore. Per me domenica non significa in genere riposare, quanto piuttosto avere più tempo per fare un numero maggiore di chilometri.
Nel caso dei lunghi il problema è principalmente mentale. La mia scelta è stata sempre quella di privilegiare i tragitti di tipo andata e ritorno, perché sono quelli nei quali un atleta sfida veramente se stesso. Ci si deve allontanare un certo numero di chilometri per poi tornare. Può succedere qualsiasi cosa nel bel mezzo del tragitto e sei costretto a tornare a piedi. Le prime volte correvo con in tasca il cellulare per eventualmente potere chiamare aiuto. Tante volte è capitato di non riuscire a completare l’intero percorso, o di patire un mal di gambe che diventava progressivamente insostenibile.
La prima volta che ho superato la barriera dei 20 chilometri, per la verità dei 10 chilometri in andata, è stato come attraversare una porta. Tutte le domeniche arrivavo alla piazzetta di Boffalora e lì guardavo oltre il ponte il tratto che andava verso Bernate, chiedendomi se avrei potuto davvero andare oltre. Quel giorno non mi sono fermato e sono arrivato fino al Castelletto di Cuggiono.Ora quelli che sembravano allora dei miti, sono diventati dei tragitti abituali, ma in un certo senso vedo sempre una porta da attraversare, che però semplicemente si è spostata un po’ più avanti: come dicevo, manca ormai solo una settimana alla prossima maratona.
